1K Next Level Orthodontics Wild Card Tournament Concludes at John Newcombe Country Club

Fernanda Contreras Advances in Singles and Doubles with Partner Felicity Maltby

New Braunfels, TX (October 19, 2020) – The $1K Next Level Orthodontics Pro Challenge Wild Card Tournament concluded Sunday at the John Newcombe Country Club in New Braunfels, Texas. Fernanda Contreras ousted Kylie Collins to claim the singles title and has been awarded a wild card into the qualifying draw for the Bellatorum Resources Pro Classic, an $80K USTA Pro Circuit event.

In doubles, Contreras also took home the victory with her partner, Felicity Maltby. Consequently, Contreras and Maltby will earn a spot in the Bellatorum Resources Pro Classic doubles main draw.

Collins, who won the doubles title at last week’s Bellatorum Resources Pro Challenge Wild Card Tournament, and WTA No. 468 Contreras, both edged out close third-set tiebreakers in their respective semifinal matches before meeting each other in the Finals. Collins came out strong at the start, only dropping a single game in the first set. Contreras rallied for a 6-4 comeback, and used her momentum to take a quick lead in the third-set tiebreaker. Despite bridging the gap later on in the tiebreak, Collins eventually fell to the Austin, Texas native 6-10.

After cementing the singles title, Contreras returned to court with Maltby to meet last week’s Doubles runners up, Allura and Maribella Zamarripa, in the finals. Contreras and Maltby claimed an early lead on the twins, eventually clinching the match 8-4.

“I’d like to thank all the players that came out and competed in our Wild Card Tournament,” said Graham Miller, Tournament Director. “It was a great weekend of high level tennis, and I am looking forward to seeing several of these players compete at the Pro Classic next week.”

The Bellatorum Resources Pro Classic begins next Monday, October 26, and will kick off with Qualifying Matches at 10:00am. Main Draw matches will start Tuesday, October 27, at 10:00am.
